Stream Surveying
Stream Surveys are a great way to learn the health of our waterways. The more weird insects you find the better the health! Bats & Brews
Sarett is pairing up with Western Michigan University professor, Maarten Vonhof and a local brewery to bring you an up close experience with wild bats! This is a very safe experience as Dr. Vonhof has been studying bats for decades. After a presentation about local bats he will take us to an area where he has set up special nets.
As the sun sets and night sets in, hopefully he will be able to catch some bats to demonstrate his research and give us an unforgettable experience! The length of the program depends on weather and bat behavior, likely 2 – 2 ½ hours. This program is very dependent on good weather! Rain date July 19. Please call 269-927-4832 to register. Lavender Adventurers: Social Hike at Ross Coastal Plain Marsh Preserve

Music & Butterflies
Join us for a special afternoon in the butterfly house. Harpist Meg Rodgers will be in the butterfly house playing a variety of music from pop to classical, from Gershwin to Disney, Meg has even been persuaded to take requests. Native Plant Sale
“Go Native” by adding native wildflowers, grasses, and ferns to your landscape. This year’s sale will feature many plants for sunny areas of your yard, especially for pollinators. A variety of plants will be available for both sand & clay soils. Shop early for the best selection. Sarett will continue to sell plants after the weekend during regular business hours until they are all gone.

Train the Trainer: Monarch Monitoring
Dr. Karen Oberhauser will lead a more in-depth training extending from the May 31 event for those who not only want to participate in Monarch Larva Monitoring Project, but want be able to teach others how to do it as well. Monarch Monitor Training
Learn how to become a monarch monitor for Monarch Larva Monitoring Project with Dr. Karen Oberhauser!
This training will include how to identify monarch eggs, all life stages of the monarch caterpillar, chrysalises, and, most importantly, the different types of their host plant--Milkweed. You will also learn how to keep and submit data to MLMP. Anyone can participate! Kids, adults, families, even groups can learn to monitor monarch numbers. Children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult. This program is free to all who want to learn how to monitor monarchs. Karen founded the MLMP during her 40-year career studying monarchs across North America, authoring over 100 papers on monarchs, insect conservation, and participatory science. Jennifer is the Science Manager at MJV, working with partners to increase engagement in research, connecting partners with common interests, and sharing research outcomes. Liz is a retired ecologist, educator, and program developer who not only spent years studying monarch ecology and serves on the board of MBF but also coordinates and trains volunteers for the MLMP across the Colorado Front Range.

Monarch Butterfly Open House
Discover the amazing lives of monarch butterflies and celebrate their beauty with us today. There will be monarch and pollinator educational tables, crafts, activities, and guided trail walks to see monarch habitats at Sarett. This is a free event to everyone! The La Chula food truck will be here too for food purchases!
